Octavia Full Hybrid: Škoda’s First Non Plug-In Hybrid

15. oktober 2026

The market for non plug-in cars welcomes a novelty: the Škoda Octavia full hybrid, presenting a powertrain that combines gasoline and electricity and is also available with two power levels; as well as sedan and station wagon body styles.

If someone asked about the advantages of driving a hybrid car, one of those benefits would be the ability to undertake short trips without relying on a charging point, and in response the new model Škoda Octavia full hybrid. All thanks to its setup where a gasoline engine and an electric one work together and its operation is based on driving conditions.

But there is much more to offer from this new bet if we focus on efficiency and driving comfort parameters, and depending on how the driver is and how they handle the steering.

The Octavia will be the first Škoda model to incorporate this full-hybrid powertrain, which expands the lineup with two power levels and two body styles.

Octavia full hybrid and its secrets for mobility

Škoda Auto continues expanding its powertrain offerings, the broadest in its history: the Octavia becomes the brand’s first model with a full-hybrid powertrain. It is offered with combined outputs of 100 kW and 125 kW.

The series-parallel hybrid system also enables fully electric driving without the need to externally recharge the traction battery. The new powertrain is available in both the sedan and the wagon, with the finishes Selection and Sportline. The first units of the new Octavia full hybrid will reach the Spanish market in early 2027.

Johannes Neft, miembro del Comité Ejecutivo responsable de Desarrollo Técnico de Škoda Auto, afirma: “The Octavia is the brand’s first model with full-hybrid powertrain. Its series-parallel hybrid system combines an internal combustion engine with the flexibility of electric driving. Operating automatically, the system selects the most efficient driving mode according to the conditions at any given moment. The traction battery is recharged during driving by the combustion engine or energy recovery. With two power levels available for both the sedan and the wagon, the full hybrid adds another technically versatile option to our range of powertrains and offers customers an even greater choice to adapt to their individual needs.”

The combination of series and parallel hybrid operation enables high efficiency

The Octavia’s full-hybrid powertrain comprises two electric motors, a 1.5 TSI evo2 combustion engine, a single-speed automatic transmission, and an automatic clutch that establishes a direct mechanical connection between the combustion engine and the front-wheel drive wheels.

The smaller of the two electric motors mainly acts as a generator and also starts the combustion engine. The traction motor, larger and more powerful, drives the front wheels and recovers energy during braking.

Depending on driving conditions, the system automatically alternates between fully electric operation, series hybrid and parallel hybrid to maximize efficiency.

In fully electric mode, the traction motor propels the vehicle using energy stored in the traction battery, enabling roughly up to two kilometers of range without starting the combustion engine.

In series hybrid mode, the combustion engine drives a generator that produces electricity for the traction motor, which moves the wheels. The system mainly uses this mode at speeds up to approximately 60 km/h, as well as when the state of charge of the traction battery falls below a certain level or the driver requires a more vigorous acceleration.

In parallel hybrid mode, the combustion engine is mechanically connected to the drive wheels through the clutch and a single fixed gear ratio, while the traction motor can provide additional support to the combustion engine. This mode is used at speeds above 60 km/h and during steady driving, when direct mechanical traction proves more efficient.

The traction motor also enables recuperation: energy recovered during braking is stored in the traction battery and reused for propulsion. If necessary, the system also activates the mechanical brakes. All transitions between the different modes are automatically controlled.

Two variants in terms of power

The Octavia will be the first Škoda model to incorporate this full-hybrid powertrain, expanding the range with two power levels and two body styles.

The Octavia full hybrid will be offered in two variants with combined outputs of 100 kW and 125 kW. The entry variant uses a 1.5 TSI gasoline engine rated at 96 kW, while the more powerful version employs a 1.5 TSI with a maximum output of 110 kW.

The electric motors are identical in both variants, which also share an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h.

The traction battery has a gross energy content of 1.6 kWh, and its state of charge is automatically maintained between 40% and 90%. The car has a 40-liter fuel tank, and the battery sits beneath the rear seats.

The boot capacity is 460 liters and rises to 1,400 liters with the rear seats folded. In the wagon version, the corresponding figures are 485 liters and up to 1,540 liters.

The Octavia full hybrid will be available in sedan and wagon versions, with the finishes Selection, Plus and Sportline. Orders open this month and the first customer deliveries are planned for December 2026.
